Husband‑and‑wife duo, Phillip and Miranda of Lux Real Estate Investment sat down with me to share the secrets behind mastering their craft, trusting your partner, and perfecting the ancient art of compromise. Honestly, their insights double as solid real‑estate wisdom and marriage‑survival advice.
Phillip is the nuts‑and‑bolts half of the team—hands‑on, managing crews, and keeping projects moving. Miranda complements him with her eye for design and her professional training as a CPA. Together, they’ve become seasoned real‑estate investors with a clear goal: flip four properties a year, reinvesting profits from each project into the next short‑term flip and the next long‑term hold. Their full‑time corporate careers give them the flexibility to maintain this steady, strategic investment model.
Their journey began in 2016 in Plymouth, Michigan, where they successfully rehabbed a three‑family property they still own today. As Phillip put it, “We wondered if we could capture lightning in a bottle twice, so we went for a second project.” They did—and that success fueled their confidence to keep going, learning to navigate challenges, surprises, and the curveballs that comes with real‑estate investing. Their design philosophy remains consistent: maximize every square inch with a blend of functionality and luxury.
Most recently, Phillip and Miranda partnered with Spring Valley on their project at 6016 Musketeer Dr, Cincinnati, OH 45248, which sold for $300,000 in December 2025.
The Lux team immediately saw the potential to expand the Musketeer property’s living space—both in the basement and outdoors. In the basement, they added a small flex space to break up what felt like an overly large family room. Staged as an office, this “getaway” nook offers endless possibilities for future homeowners: a gym, a Zen room, a storage area, or whatever suits their lifestyle.
Outside, they created a walkout deck by converting a window into a sliding door, improving flow and making the home more entertainment‑friendly. Trex decking added a touch of durability and luxury.
Upstairs, the home features elegant contrasting colors, a beautifully configured galley kitchen with abundant cabinet space, a clean no‑upper‑cabinet aesthetic, and high‑end tile and stone finishes in the kitchen and baths.
Tips from the Property Flippers
- Use pocket or sliding doors in small areas to maximize usable space while maintaining a clean aesthetic.
- Watch the market closely. Price points shift, and your budget may need to shift with them.
- Stage your property. When buyers can envision themselves living in the space—and physically interact with the furnishings—they form a deeper emotional connection, which can help push the price point.
- Choose the right partner. In a business built on creativity and problem‑solving, having someone you trust—someone who lets you explore ideas even when they don’t immediately see your vision—makes all the difference.
The Financer
There may be no one who appreciates a good theme more than I do. I often ask investors why they choose certain colors—usually the answer involves trends or favorite design palettes. But this time, I was pleasantly surprised… and honestly a little annoyed with myself for not catching the inspiration behind the bold blue in this flip.
The home sits on Musketeer Drive, and the borrowers are both proud graduates of Xavier University. Naturally, they decided to weave Xavier’s signature blue throughout the design as a subtle nod to their alma mater. And this brings us to the lesson on trusting your partner. One half of the duo wasn’t exactly sold on the bold blue at first but chose to trust the other’s vision. In the end, it turned out to be a winning choice—yes, even coming from a UC alum like me.
