10 Steps to Winterize Your Investment

Are you making a list and checking it twice?

Check out these 10 methods to prepare your property investments for winter and prevent expensive future issues.

1. Clear your gutters & downspouts

After you’ve cleaned the top of your gutters, try pouring some water down the downspout to confirm it exits at the intended location. If needed, attach extensions to your downspouts to direct the water further away from your house.

2. Scan your roof for any holes or damaged shingles

3. Test your heating system & bleed the radiator lines

4. Check for air leaks arounds doors and windows

5. Clean your chimney & check it for air leaks

6. Test carbon monoxide & smoke detectors

Heating during winter is frequently the primary cause of property fires. Carbon monoxide is a bigger threat during the winter because you likely have all your windows and doors closed up tightly.

7. Shut Down the Sprinkler System

Most systems require the lines to be blown out to ensure no moisture remains in the lines to freeze.

8. Drain outside faucets

9. Remove dead/ dying trees your yard before they get weighted down by snow

10. Restock on ice melt to treat those walkways and arrange for snow removal
